A Quick Update

The quiet period is over! Our IPO process was a wild ride, but we’re excited to get back to business and are focused squarely on the future. The last six months have been the most productive in our history, seeing the launch of great new services like [Groupon Now!](http://www.groupon.com/now), [Groupon Rewards](http://www.groupon.com/joinrewards), [Groupon Getaways](http://www.groupon.com/getaways), and Groupon Goods. And with the addition of product and travel deals that are handpicked to make perfect gifts, [Grouponicus](http://www.groupon.com/grouponicus), our corporate wintertime holiday (currently only celebrated in the USA), is off to a roaring start. We sold over 650,000 Grouponicus deals between Black Friday and Cyber Monday – an increase of over 500% from last year – saving consumers millions of dollars, and delivering tons of business to our merchant partners.

A huge thanks to our customers and merchant partners, who continue to embrace Groupon with a passion that makes us feel like we have the best jobs in the world. We’ve got even more lined up for the next six months than we did in the last six months, so stay tuned! We’re back to communicating like a normal company again… well, as normal as we can muster at Groupon.

Grouponcierge Check-In — Susan M. Recaps Her Thanksgiving Travels

Today’s guest post comes from our Grouponicerge Susan M.:

Greetings! Grouponcierge Susan M. here, checking in after a few weeks of traveling the country and sharing my top gifting advice with shoppers nationwide.

Thanksgiving Thursday I found myself in Hoosier Country at the local FOX Indianapolis studios. The folks there were swell, especially considering it was 6:00 a.m. on Turkey Day! On this morning before the country’s biggest shopping day of the year, I was eager to showcase some top holiday shopping tips & tricks, as well as highlight some of the best offers within the local Grouponicus Holiday Shop.

Oftentimes it’s hard to find the perfect gift for two halves of a whole. That’s why I recommend couples’ gifts — an experience that your favorite tag-team or loving duo can enjoy together. This week, Indianapolis shoppers have the opportunity to give an indulgent five-course fusion dinner for two. Nothing says “Happy Grouponicus!” like a night out with your special someone.

Check out more of my tips and travels…after the jump!

Happy Cyber Monday! Gift Giving 101 with Grouponcierge Brett

Today’s guest post comes from our Grouponcierge, Brett R.:

Kicking the week off right, the Grouponicus Holiday Shop celebrates Cyber Monday with deals perfect for gifting. This sleek Sony mp4 camera is just one top highlight amongst our collection of best local gifts and experiences available for you at unbeatable prices, allowing you to shop twice as generously this year.

As a resident gifting expert, I’ve gained some valuable tricks along the way that are sure to help you shop today and every day throughout Grouponicus. Here are some of my top tips to keep in mind when shopping this season:

  • Whether you’re gifting for someone locally or across the nation, remember to look for the hometown gems that make each city unique, like taking in the historical sites and national parks in DC on this Dandy Fine Dining Restaurant Cruise.
  • Experiential gifts are the way to go this year. Help your friends and family explore a new wine bar, learn how to cook or relax at a nearby B&B. For example, this Snowmobile Rental deal from SledVentures in Boston is a great way to get off the couch enjoy the outdoors this winter.
  • A gift of social good is always a nice option. This week’s featured G-Team deal allows your giftee to donate school supplies to students in need via DonorsChoose.org.

That’s all for me for today — Happy Cyber Monday to all and I’ll see you in Boston next week!

Meet Groupon’s 2011 Holiday Grouponcierges!

On Black Friday, we remember the stories recited to us by our elders reminding us to wake up before the rooster’s crow and seize the eggs before we seize the day. — Brett R., Grouponcierge

We’ve officially kicked off our second annual ancient wintertime celebration of Grouponicus – Groupon’s holiday shop featuring deals that allow shoppers to be twice as generous when gifting unique experiences for anyone on their list. Today, customers can check out unbeatable Black Friday deals from Old Navy and great local merchants nationwide. And, to help customers remember the true meaning of Grouponicus, Groupo the Bird is telling the lore of Grouponicus and giving away additional holiday cheer all through the season.

To share the hottest gifting tips, best local deals and all around shopping advice, we’re excited to introduce our three holiday Grouponcierges: Brett, Caroline and Susan!

After a series of auditions amongst team members involving building structurally sound gingerbread houses and deep-knee bends at our Chicago headquarters, these three were chosen as the official Grouponcierges: gifting gurus with insider expertise on shopping trends, Grouponicus and all things gift-giving for 2011.

Throughout Grouponicus, this trio of holiday helpers will travel the country, popping into your local news stations to talk about what to buy Aunt Marjorie, surprises like Epic Deals and the quickest route to Winterland, among other festive fun.

Meet the Grouponcierges after the jump!

Prevent Child Abuse via G-Team

Prevent Child Abuse America and G-Team are partnering up for a national fundraising campaign that supports the distribution of parenting information to families with young children across the country. This invaluable resource for families lays the foundation for children’s growth and development, and helps reduce more serious problems from occurring later on.

Prevent Child Abuse America, founded in 1972, works to ensure the healthy development of children nationwide while recognizing that child development is a building block for community development and economic development. They believe that communities across the country are doing innovative things with great results to prevent abuse and neglect from ever occurring, and what we need to do as a nation is commit to bringing this kind of ingenuity to communities everywhere.

Prevent Child Abuse America President and CEO, James M. Hmurovich, says:

“We all have a role to play when it comes to ensuring the healthy development of our nation’s children. By sharing this opportunity with us through the collective action model of G-Team, Groupon is clearly doing its part and providing a chance for its subscribers to do their part as well.  To us, Groupon’s commitment to and support of the community in this way is exemplary and should serve as a model for other companies to follow.”

To access this deal, shoppers can visit HERE. The booklets will be sent to families enrolled in Prevent Child Abuse America’s lead direct service program, Healthy Families America. Thanks for your support this holiday season!

Lunch for $1

Groupon Now! Serves Lunch Nationwide for $1

Lunch is traditionally served in the middle of the day after breakfast, before dinner, and during brunch. Other than its ability to sound strange when said out loud too many times, lunch also fills the stomach so one can sustain alertness for twenty minutes before the inevitable “food coma” takes over the system.

To celebrate this middle-meal, Groupon Now! is partnering with Feeding America, the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks. This great charity helps provide fresh produce and nutritious meals to families struggling with hunger through mobile pantries and food banks, food stamps, disaster relief, children’s free-meal programs, and advocacy efforts.

In partnership with this organization, a portion of the proceeds from $1 Lunch Day will help provide half-a-million meals to families in need. This is the largest Groupon Now! promotion to date, featuring $1 lunch deals from thousands of the best merchants across all 25 Groupon Now! markets. From sushi, wraps and pizza to five-star restaurants, burger joints and bakeries, customers can find $1 deals from their favorite spots across town or spend their lunch hour discovering different eateries.

If you packed a lunch today, you can still check out Feeding America’s G-Team campaign and make a donation! Feeding America can help feed a family of four for an entire week for $11. Thanks for your support!

Behind the Deals: The Night Shift

Some Groupon employees are more naturally predisposed to working at night due to having been born at night. In order to succeed in the late hours, staff must follow these night-shift rules, posted on everyone’s computer screen, nightly:

1. Business is only to be conducted in whispers, as to not wake the day-shift employees, who fall asleep on the floor immediately upon the sounding of the 5 p.m. bell.

2. Employees are to wear movie-replica quality Freddy Krueger costumes at all times. Because.

3. The first one to find Mom’s glasses gets two dollars.

4. There is no lunch break. Lunch takes place between breakfast and dinner. You can’t just eat a meal whenever and call it lunch.

5. Don’t eat the cookies. Those are for Santa Claus.
