What’s Appening? Announcing the New Groupon iPad App 1.5!

Today, just in time for Grouponicus, we’re announcing our latest, greatest and substantially upgraded iPad app – Groupon HD for iPad (v.1.5).

iPad 1.5 is our first major refresh since we launched our original app in April 2011, and brings our iPad app up to par with our highly-rated iPhone and Android apps.

Features of the iPad 1.5 include:

  • A gorgeous new look that that makes it easier to explore Local deals, Groupon Goods and Getaways
  • An all-new “Nearby” tab, including:
    • A gallery view of deals close by
    • A new “map view” that lets you see exactly where all your nearby deals are located
    • The ability to filter deals by category (e.g., Food & Drink, Health & Beauty) to make it faster to find the deals you really want
  • Improved Facebook iOS 6 integration for sharing your deals
  • Support for promotional and gift codes
  • Support for six new markets: Singapore, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, Hong Kong and Brazil

With this release, our iPad app will be available in the U.S., Canada and eleven other markets around the world. And the timing couldn’t be better; according to a survey conducted by Mary Meeker at VC firm Kleiner Perkins, iPad adoption has been historically fast – it’s grown 3x faster in its first 10 quarters than even the mighty iPhone!

Next Step for Groupon Scheduler

Groupon Offers Small Businesses Free Version of Groupon Scheduler

Hello from Groupon’s Merchant Products Team. Today we’re announcing the next step for Groupon Scheduler, our new online appointment booking and staffing management tool. Starting this morning, we’re offering a free beta version of Groupon Scheduler to all appointment-based small businesses in the US and Canada (excluding Quebec). To sign up, just go to http://www.groupon.com/scheduler.

We launched Scheduler in December with merchants running Groupon deals in two cities—Sacramento and Miami. Since then we’ve opened it up to merchants running Groupons in other cities in North America and starting today, any small business can sign up for our free beta version.

Scheduler is the latest addition to Groupon’s suite of merchant marketing tools, which help business owners get more customers and run their businesses more successfully. Scheduler gives business owners an easy, free way to take online bookings from their customers 24/7. Once a Groupon has been purchased, a customer can schedule an appointment in just seconds through their account on Groupon.com. Merchants can also add a “Book Now” button to their website and use Scheduler to manage online booking for all of their services—not just those offered through Groupon.

Managing appointments and staffing schedules is critical for small businesses, but it takes time and energy. Scheduler is designed to be clean, simple and easy to use. It makes the appointment process easier, helps reduce no-shows and cancellations and lets business owners focus on what matters most—serving their customers and growing their business.

Announcing Groupon Scheduler

Greetings from the Product team here at Groupon! Today we’ve announced Groupon Scheduler, a new online appointment calendar that provides an easy way for Groupon merchants to manage their schedules and accept bookings directly from consumers.

Groupon Scheduler grew out of technology from our September 2011 acquisition of OpenCal, an innovative company founded in 2009 by product designers Arash Shiva and Simon Vallee in Vancouver, Canada. We recognized that there were thousands of appointment-based Groupon merchants looking for a simple way to implement online scheduling. Groupon Scheduler can accommodate schedules for different employees, services, and business locations, allowing consumers to book appointments without having to call or email.

Groupon consumers can book appointments with participating merchants through their account on Groupon.com and will receive a reminder email 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. In addition to booking Groupon clientele, merchants can place a “Book Now” button on their website to schedule non-Groupon appointments and manage their entire calendar.

We’ve kicked off a pilot program in Sacramento and Miami and plan to implement Groupon Scheduler in markets across the U.S. and internationally soon.
